If you search "how to make money online" on YouTube, you will inevitably find videos promising "Passive Income" through Print-on-Demand (POD). The pitch is seductive: Use AI tools to generate designs, upload them to marketplaces like Redbubble or Etsy, and wait for the cash to roll in while you sleep.

I decided to test this hypothesis with a strict $0 budget. I used free AI generators to create 50 unique designs—ranging from "retro vaporwave cats" to "stoic motivational quotes"—and spent my evenings uploading, tagging, and optimizing them for search.

The Fantasy

The first few days were fueled by pure optimism. I calculated the math in my head: "If I sell just one t-shirt a day per design, that's $50 a day!" I imagined waking up to a phone full of sales notifications. The barrier to entry was so low—I didn't have to buy inventory or ship packages—that it felt like a cheat code.

The Noise

The reality check hit around Day 10. I searched for one of my keywords, "funny cat sticker," on the platform. The result? 500,000+ results.
